About the hotel

Welcome to the Craig Manor Hotel, owned and run by the Harwood family. The hotel has experienced a major refurbishment in 2004. Our experience of 35 years as hoteliers in the Lake District has taught us that if guests enjoy their first visit they will return time and time again. Our aim therefore is to make all your visits as enjoyable as possible.

The Craig Manor Hotel nestles on the brow of a hill overlooking Lake Windermere, Langdale Pikes and surrounding mountains. Just a short stroll from the front door is the village of Bowness with its pubs, shops, cafes and museum. Guests can walk to the lake shore and maybe take a cruise to nearby Ambleside.

Our guests have complimentary use of the facilities of Parklands leisure club. Here, guests may swim, play badminton, squash, use the multi gym, or relax in the steam room, sauna or jacuzzi with perhaps a game of snooker afterwards in their comfortable lounge where snacks and drinks are also served. Parklands Leisure club is within easy reach from the hotel, taking 5 minutes by car.

The area around Windermere abounds with places of special interest, there are over 30 visitors centres and attractions open all year. Water skiing, wind surfing, horse riding and fell walking are all within easy reach of the hotel. If you prefer a game of golf we can arrange times for you, at a number of local courses.

Craig Manor hotel offers its guests a choice of rooms. Choose from deluxe rooms, four poster rooms, a room with a lake view or Suite. All the Craig Manor bedrooms are tastefully furnished to a high standard and with every facility you would expect from a three star hotel.

Whatever your reasons are for staying at the Craig Manor, be it a short break, romantic weekend or as an ideal base for touring the English Lakes, you can be sure of a warm welcome.

Restaurants and Bars

Paisley's Restaurant takes its name from Sir Thomas Paisley, who was the original owner of the house. He was an Admiral in the Royal Navy, and chose this beautiful site to build his retirement home in 1848. The views from the restaurant are spectacular, overlooking Lake Windermere, the Langdale Pikes, Claife Heights and surrounding mountains.
Our chef prides himself on his interesting and imaginative cuisine, mixing the best of English and Continental fayre, using where possible local produce. A wide selection of dishes are always available, and as a speciality of the house we have Flambe at your table, perhaps Scampi in Pernod or Steak Diane, Crepe Suzette or Cherries in Brandy.
